Hidden Pregap Audio Tracks

It's a rare occasion that you get to completely blow the mind of a record store worker about something music related. I managed this last night as I picked up a couple new CDs at the last remaining record store in midtown. Stumbling in, I was surprised to hear Lamb's Fear of Four playing, which I happen to own and is at least 5 years old. I mentioned to the clerk that this CD has a hidden track before the first track that you have to rewind to get to. He blinked for a few minutes then proceeded to finish bagging my purchases. A few seconds later, after giving it some time to process, he retorted "Really?", then "I'll have to check that out at home tonight".

It's surprising that a majority of people don't know about these hidden pregap tracks. Here is a full list of all the album's that have pregap tracks. I remember it well, about seven years ago when Adam and I tinkered with finding the hidden track on this album. That same day we also listened to the hidden Nick Cave and Dirty Three tracks on the X-Files: Songs In the Key of X Soundtrack. Good memories. Check it out, you might be surprised what albums you own that have all new songs that you've never heard. (NOTE - some CD players are picky and won't let you play songs hidden in the pregap).

Oh man

I remember that. Took us lots of fiddling with cdparanoia before we could rip it.

I see on that list that Autechre's EP7 has a hidden track. My copy of the physical CD is back in St. Louis, so I'll have to remember to check it out next time I go back.
